What was supposed to be one of the happiest days of the school year turned onto tragedy this morning. A 14- year- old boy drowned while on an outing at Wet-N-Wild Water World.

Eric Saldana, 14, of Chaparral Middle School was pulled from the bottom of a 12-foot-deep pool. Wet-N-Wild general manager Chandra Edwards says the park was open only to students today. There were 750 students from Gadsden, El Paso, Chaparral and Socorro school districts.

Wet-N-Wild has a staff of 140 lifeguards. Edwards says the two who were at that pool are volunteer firefighters, one has two previous CPR rescues and the other is former military.
