Borderland students, who won a fitness challenge, got a special visit from Jared, "the Subway guy" you see in the restaurant chain's commercials. Jared spoke with students at Fannin Elementary, who participated in the second annual Subway Restaurants Fitness Challenge. Nearly 20 schools in the Borderland took part in the six-week challenge to educate students about eating right and exercising. Jared Fogle says with childhood obesity rates the way they are, events like this are extremely important.

"Unfortunately it's more of an issue here in the El Paso/Las Cruces area, where it's higher than the national average," said Jared. "So, really, we're just trying to get the word out to the students about getting proper nutrition, obviously exercising enough so they don't wind up weighing over 425 lbs. like I did."

Two other top-performing schools in the challenge were Lamar Elementary and Edgemere Elementary. Each school received $1,000 to buy new exercise equipment.
