EL PASO- Some improvements are in the works for Ascarte Park in south El Paso.

Today, county commissioners approved a $480,000 bid to renovate the pavilion in the park. That will pay for roof repairs, and remodeling the facility's kitchens and bathrooms. These upgrades should make Ascarate Park more attractive to event planners who can rent the pavilion.

"It's going to be completely enclosed with refrigeration, so it can be rented to different parties so it can be utilized for what it was really intended for years ago. If the weather is bad, they can just go ahead and lease the place, and have a good time in Ascarate," says Piti Vasquez, El Paso County.

These renovations could be complete as soon as 90 days from now.
