Public To Discuss How Much ASARCO Pays To Clean Up Contamination
A public hearing will be held tonight to discuss the cleanup of contamination at ASARCO.
One issue is how much ASARCO would pay to clean up their smelters here in El Paso and in Corpus Christi.
Some experts say the cost could reach around $200 million.
Under the proposal, ASARCO would address contamination in soil, ground water, surface water and on-site structures.
This is all preliminary until a bankruptcy court in Corpus Christi signs off on it. They'll also decide how much money the City of El Paso receives.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality will join the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice in hosting the meeting at City Hall tonight at 6:30.
