EL PASO- Five years ago today marked the first day of the 2006 El Paso Monsoon, which flooded and destroyed much of El Paso.

Our sister station, KDBC- Local 4 News and photojournalist Ray Arzate made this video in honor of the event.

This has been bothering me for quite some time. I can remember learning about the monsoons in grade school. Here is the Merriam-Webster definition. I don't think an occasional heavy rain in El Paso qualifies.

1: a periodic wind especially in the Indian Ocean and southern Asia

2: the season of the southwest monsoon in India and adjacent areas that is characterized by very heavy rainfall

3: rainfall that is associated with the monsoon.
