LAS CRUCES- Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect, or suspects, who may be responsible for as many as seven intentionally-set fires since April in the Mesquite Historic District.

The Las Cruces Fire Department is investigating the fires, all of which are suspicious in nature. Fire investigators have ruled out the possibility that the fires were accidental or naturally-caused.

The first suspicious fire in the Mesquite Historic District, in downtown Las Cruces, occurred April 30, 2011, at 830 E. Court Ave. Other suspicious fires since then include:

• May 22 near Fir Avenue and Campo Street.
• May 30 at 625 E. Hadley Ave.
• June 10 at 342 N. Tornillo St.
• Oct. 24 at 226 N. San Pedro St.
• Nov. 2 near Mountain Avenue and Mesquite Street.
• Nov. 4 near San Pedro Street and Hadley Avenue.

All of the fires were reported either late in the evenings or during the early-morning hours. All but one occurred in vacant or boarded-up homes. No injuries have been reported.

If you have any information on who may be responsible for any or all of these fires, you are asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip via text message to LCTIPS (528477).

The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
