Oscar Garcia is a Borderland native. He is a proud Gadsden High School graduate (class of 2000) and a former New Mexico State University Aggie (class of 2005). His journalism career started at NMSU at the PBS television station, News22. Oscar served as a student reporter/anchor and would write, shoot and edit stories for the weekday newscast and would help with the production department as well. During his final semester at NMSU, he served as a producer for the Spanish segment of News22, which he also anchored. He was also president of the NMSU Broadcasters, an organization that does numerous things for the community, organizes annual trips to journalism conventions around the nation and helps members acquire hands-on experience with professionals. During his time at NMSU, Oscar was chosen three years in a row to participate in the National Association of Hispanic Journalists student projects. His next step was producing at KDBC 4 News. Oscar admires journalism icons such as Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas (Univision's network team), Brian Williams and Ron Burgundy (just kidding!). He is a huge family-oriented guy and loves spending time with his family. It's no surprise to say he is an extremely proud uncle! Some of Oscar's hobbies are watching television re-runs (Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends) and absolutely loves going to the movies when he can. Oscar likes doing stories on border issues and wants to give a voice to those who are calling for a change.
