Monday, October 2, 2006 - In 2002 the school, part of the Gadsden school district, hit a low point. The school was placed under "corrective action" because reading and math test scores were not up to par. But since then, teachers, students, and school administrators have managed to turn it all around. They did it with a "balanced literacy" and "math initiative" program. In class, coaches worked with teachers on a daily basis to learn what their students need. Now, over half the students are passing state tests - and they plan to improve even more in the future.
