Monday, January 29, 2007 - As identity theft continues to be a growing concern for Americans, there are some new high-tech ways to help protect your identity. Fujitsu introduces one of them at CES. It's called Palm Secure. Fujitsu's Joel Hagberg showed me how it works.
"This product is geared for that next level of security above (scanning) fingerprints," Hagberg said. "You put your hand above it, it does a contactless scan of your vein pattern...so it will read my vein pattern and allow me access. That can be physical access or logical access."
While the device is geared more towards use by businesses like banks and hospitals and even the military, eventually you could see a version of Palm Secure available for your use.
"It can replace passwords on your computer," said Hagberg, "it will replace keys for your front door of your house or access to your (workplace)."
There was also a compact speaker system for iPods that doubles as an alarm clock. It's the i.Sound Time Travel from Dream Gear. And it's more than just great sound.
"It comes with a wake me up to music function," explained Allison Hannon, Dream Gear's spokesperson. "It also charges the iPod when you play music or when you just have the alarm clock on. It's also great because it's compatible with all iPods, mp3 and PSP devices."
Time Travel retails for 50 dollars. Right now it's available on the i.Sound website or from Sharper Image. Get more info at http://isound.net/ipod(r)-speakers/isound-time-travel.asp
