MONTANA VISTA - Trash bags filled with Fourth of July fun were scattered across the Montana Vista desert Monday morning.

For the second year in a row, inmates from the county jail picked up remnants of an Independence Day celebration...

El Paso Sheriff's Commander Paul Cross said it's a win-win situation. "The county gets to see the inmates out here cleaning all the fireworks," Cross said.  "And the people in the county appreciate the fact that we're putting inmates to use in a good manner."

The inmate cleanup effort seems to be working.  Residents say the trash problem after the July 4 is not as bad as
year's past.

Fireworks vendors say this year was one of the busiest they've ever had.  So they were really glad the Sheriff's Office has implemented this program.

This is very good idea. Inmates are just people like the rest and have even bigger obligation to give something to the society. ok. may be not the big villains but may be the criminals who are not very dangerous can do these kind of services for the nation. I read some similar story for some Chelsea cleaners which turned to be prisoners. well this was a little scary indeed :)
