Friday, April 6, 2007 - Just days ago we reported Billy Gillespie was going to sign an extension to coach at Texas A & M. However, a new school approached him with an even more lucrative contract, and he accepted.
Coach Gillespie is headed to the University of Kentucky. He has reportedly accepted a seven-year contract worth 2.3 million dollars a season. That's a half million a year more than what Texas A & M offered.
Gillespie has taken a team to the NCAA Tournament three times, including one with UTEP.
Kentucky came to Coach Gillespie after two-time national champion head coach Billy Donovan did not accept the job.
As for Texas A & M, they have yet to announce who will succeed Coach Gillespie as head coach.
