LAS CRUCES- A hand tool developed in Las Cruces is launching nationally and the maker is hoping to land deals with home improvement retailers.

Its owner says it'll save a lot of time and money for those who deal with certain kinds of materials at construction sites.   "This is the big thing right now. It's just a matter of letting people know about it," said Kolmar Kutter creator Daniel Flores.

The compact hand tool can cut through brick, pavement and manufactured stone in a few seconds.  "You put the stone in, you pump up the hydraulic. It pops it. Very simple. One, two, three kind of a step," said Daniel.

Daniel, a developer in Las Cruces, created the device, he says, out of frustration over how long the machines he was using took to cut through material.  "Getting out there and making a saw cut takes a long time, approximately 20 seconds. You waste a lot of time," said Daniel.

He says with other tools, you also don't end up with a clean cut as a video on the company's website demonstrates.  "The biggest factor is that it's a very clean and precise cut. Where you measure it, that's where you're going to get the cut," said Daniel.

Now that he's got his patent, Daniel says he's ready to introduce his creation to the nation. Daniel says the Kolmar Kutter is portable, which is a big advantage over other bulky tools and he says it saves money.

"If you were to take a block saw or what have you, you're going to get about 500 cuts out of that one blade and you have to change things out and you're looking at $30 to $50 per blade," said Daniel.

Something else he's proud of is that he's building his business in the place he calls home and bringing jobs to the area.  "We are utilizing a lot of local distributors who are providing us the steel, the cutting of the steel and there's a phenomenal amount and we're adding to that because Las Cruces really is helping us to be able to do this," said Daniel.

The Kolmar Kutter is scheduled to be featured on the DIY Network in January on the show "I Want That" and they're hoping to land spots in "King of Dirt" and "Cool Tools" as well.
