Halloween Store Shows Us This Year's Top Costume Picks

Friday, September 30, 2011 - 7:13pm

It's hard to believe October is here this weekend and that means Halloween is in the air. Right now is the perfect time to get your costume because costume stores have just opened their doors and are fully stocked. But with hundreds of costumes to pick from, how do you make your choice? We spoke with a costume store manager to find out what the top costumes are for every age.

The bottom line with halloween costumes: if it was a hit on the big screen, it'll do the trick on the scariest night of the year.

"Definitely it's going to be Thor and it's going to be Tron, also Captain America. We also have Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean," said Party World manager Judy Cervantes.

Cervantes also says you can't go wrong with the old classics: Michael Myers from Halloween and Jason from Friday the 13th.

For boys superheroes are always a top pick. "The kids definitely, it would have to be the super heroes: Spider-Man, Superman, Hulk. We also have Captain America," said Cervantes. "We also have Thor for children."

Favorites for little girls include characters from the Wizards of Waverly Place, Hanna Montana, Tinkerbell and, of course, Disney princesses.

For the ladies, the sexy costumes are the most popular. "We have fairies. We have harlequins. We have our Playboy costumes also. We have the really sexy looks like the cops, the SWAT, those are really good sellers also."

If you have two parties to go to but don't want to buy another costume or wear the same thing, you can always buy a reversible costume and start your night off as a sailor and end up as a mermaid princess.

And if you want to get really creative, you have a huge selection of accessories to pick from. "Make up. You can find latex masks. You can find shoes, leggings. We have wigs. We have masks. We have practically anything and everything to either make up your own costume or fit the ones that we have," said Cervantes.

With Halloween four weeks away, Cervantes says it'll sneak up on your before you know it. She says the best time to shop for a costume is the last week of September through the first week of October, while they're fully stocked with merchandise.

"We've had people coming in and shopping for halloween supplies since mid September," she said. "I mean, the early shoppers, they're already in here. They're already finding stuff to dress up their houses, things like that."

You can also find costumes for babies and your pet at the store.
Party world is located at 3434 Mesa in West El Paso. They're open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last two weeks of October, they do extend their hours.
