SAN ANTONIO-  Governor Perry has announced the new Housing4TexasHeroes program, which will help veterans buy, build, rent or rehabilitate a home.

The efforts of Governor Perry and legislative leaders during session helped create the $3 million program.

“The freedoms we all enjoy are the direct result of the service and sacrifice of our veterans, who valued their country and their communities, above themselves,” Governor. Perry said. “Housing4TexasHeroes will help ensure veterans and their families have adequate housing as they ease back into civilian life and enjoy the blessings of liberty they have earned with their own valor and sacrifice.”

Funds will be handled by the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance to organizations that provide housing to Veterans and their Families.

Housing4TexasHeroes will accept applications through September 16, 2011.

Information outlining the grant objectives, selection criteria and application instructions can be found at http://www.tvc.state.tx.us/about/current-grant-process-and-form. All grant applications for Housing4TexasHeroes must be received by the Texas Veterans Commission no later than 5:00 PM Central Time on September 16, 2011.
