The Plaza Theater was the place to be last night for the Kids Excel Gala. The theater was decked out with decorations made from recycled material to go along with this year's theme: reduce, reuse, recycle.

The gala raises funds for Kids Excel,a non-profit program that teaches 4th grade students about discipline and tenacity through dance.

2,200 students across the Borderland participate in the Kids Excel program. Prior to the gala, 360 of the students got to perform for their families.

"Most of the children in our program have never been to the theater and they have never been able to have the experience of dancing on the stage. I mean, most adults have never had that experience," said Kids Excel Executive Director Gemtria St. Clair.

The goal of the gala was to raise $50,000.
