State Fair Promises Big Attractions
DALLAS - Looking for something different to do this coming weekend?
You could check out the Texas State Fair.
Flights from El Paso to Dallas run $285 to $355.
Fair park is all abuzz with people setting up for this year's "Super" and "Green" state fair of Texas.
"This year's fair is themed super-sized fun. so the theme alone should get everyone excited."
The Midway is unveiling 11 new rides, including Disk,o, Rock It, and the super-sized "Windstorm" roller coaster.
"It runs about 35 to 40 miles an hour. You're going to be doing 90-degree turns on it, so it's really -- we call this ride a screamer."
Newly built for this year's state fair is a greenhouse on the Midway, where you can learn about dozens of different plant species and how to care for them in your own home.
"We really do want to be known as the place to go to see fall garden plants every year."
One-thousand hanging plants rotate around the greenhouse and get watered. Little trains wind around miniature version of well-known Texas buildings. That's about the only exhibit at the fair that is not super-sized. Inside the Hall of State, just in time for the Super Bowl in February, you'll find exhibits dedicated to football, including a showcase of memorabilia from NFL legend Tom Landry.
"We'll be celebrating almost 100 years of exciting football events in North Texas. It started back 99 years ago with the Texas-OU game here at the fair."
