'Larry King Live' Ends After 25 Years
HOLLYWOOD, CA - After 25-years on the air, “Larry King Live” had its last broadcast on Thursday.
“Welcome to the last 'Larry King Live.' It's hard to say that,” King said when he opened his last show.
Larry King ended his prime-time show on CNN with a serenade from Tony Bennett, a greeting from President Obama, and a proclamation from California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, among other guests. Comedian Bill Maher and television host Ryan Seacrest joined King on the set. Schwarzenegger appeared via satellite transmission from Sacramento, Calif., and showed an official written proclamation declaring Thursday “Larry King Day.”
King conducted more than 50,000 interviews, 6,120 shows in CNN's archives, 10 Cable ACE Awards, an Emmy, a Peabody, and a Guinness World Records entry for having the longest-running show with the same host in the same time slot.
President Obama called King “one of the giants in broadcasting” in a pre-recorded message. Maher labeled King as a TV legend, putting him in the same category as TV legends Johnny Carson, Steve Allen and Walter Cronkite.
King will be working on special projects for CNN.
