Iraqi Woman Killed By Father
19-year-old killed after al-Qaida recruitment
BAGHDAD— An Iraqi woman was killed by her father after he discovered al-Qaida had recruited her as a suicide bomber north of Baghdad, a police spokesman said on Friday.
Najim al-Anbaky was arrested after security forces raided his home last Thursday in Baqouba, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad. Maj. Ghalib al-Karkhi, a police spokesman in the Diyala province, said security forces were searching for the 19-year old woman on suspicion of having ties to al-Qaida when al-Anbaky told authorities during questioning that he had killed his daughter a month earlier.
Al-Ankaby showed police his daughter's grave. He is still in custody and is under investigation, but no charges have been made against him.
Al-Qaida has been recruiting women for suicide attacks because they are able to pass police checkpoints easier than men by hiding explosives underneath their traditional abaya. An abaya is a loose black cloak that conservative Muslim women wear.
