EL PASO - If they are not here now, they will be soon.

That word from the Department of Homeland Security as it prepares to deploy the National Guard on our border with Mexico.

The guard's due date, August 1, came and went yesterday with no sign of the troops.

We are told some guard members remain in training and that they will arrive at any time.

Exactly where remains a question.

President Obama is sending 1,200 troops to California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

They will help guard against border violence, illegal border crossings and drug shipments.

We asked Homeland Security how many guard members are being sent to El Paso but we have received no word on that yet.

The agency did give us a state by state breakdown.

Arizona is getting 524 guardsmen, 250 are coming to Texas, 224 to California and 72 to New Mexico.

Doug Mosier with the U.S. Border Patrol says beyond that, no one knows...

"We really don't have all that information as of yet, but you know, this is happening this week, as we speak, so we'll probably know more as we go, uh, but for now, the announcement is all we have received essentially and that's all that we've put out so far."
