FREE Summer Picnic at the Parks

In 1959, the BIA of Southern New Mexico was chartered as an organization under the name Las Cruces Home Builders Association. The BIA was created out of need to promote and protect the building industry, and while 50 years have passed and much has changed, their mission remains constant.

This organization has a rich history of giving back to the community, a trend which will continue far into the future. The bicentennial log cabin, which resides on South Main Street for years, was constructed and donated to the City of Las Cruces by members of the organization. For years, playhouses were constructed and raffled to raise funds for charity. Tresco, Inc. is just one of many beneficiaries. The history of this association shows that though the hard work of its members, much is given back to the community.

Recently, a group of volunteers from the BIA came together and organized a day of appreciation and fun to celebrate 50 years of building Las Cruces.

On July 18, the BIA is hosting a ‘Summer Picnic at the Parks’ in celebration of this important milestone, and wish to share it with the community. “BIA, formerly, LCHBA, want the community to know how much we appreciate the support we get from our neighbors, clients, family and friends,” says Kelley Coffeen, committee chair person and Steinborn GMAC Realtors agent.

The event is FREE of charge and will take place at two different parks. Klein Park activities will commence at 10am and end at 2pm. Entertainment includes music by Nuevo Soul, Las Cruces Fire Department Rodeo for kids, food vendors, and more. In addition, the long awaited drawing for the association’s playhouse, built earlier this year, will happen at 11am. Part of the proceeds from the raffle benefit Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southern New Mexico.

Later that afternoon, a new set of activities will go on at Young Park from 4pm to 7pm. Entertainment includes music by Moby Disc DJ’s, games for children and adults, a dunking booth and $2 burger & chip meals. Members business of the BIA will have the opportunity to set-up displays free of charge and will be available to answer questions from the general public.
