City of El Paso to Offer Swim Lessons

EL PASO- The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will soon offer Learn to Swim classes.

Classes are divided into categories by age and experience.

PRESCHOOL (4-5 years) Students learn basic water adjustment skills with an emphasis on play to prepare them for comfort in the water for Level 1 & 2.

ADVANCED PRE-SCHOOL (4-5 years) The advanced pre-school will have students working on level 1 material. Prerequisite – Pre-School Class.

LEVEL 1 & 2 (6-13 years) Swimmers learn basic swimming skills. Class covers submersion under the water, floating & gliding on front & back, rhythmic breathing, safety & survival skills, and front & back crawls at a beginner level.

LEVEL 3 (must complete prior level or equivalent skills) Class is designed to build upon skills learned at Levels 1 & 2. The back crawl will be introduced and the front & back crawls will be perfected. Students will learn to tread water. Safety & survival skills will be expanded.

Registration starts one week before classes starting at 6:00 a.m. The fee is $25 for eight classes and the dates are listed below:

Session 1 June 13th – 23rd
Session 2 June 27th – July 8th
Session 3 July 11th – 21st
Session 4 July 25th – August 4th
Session 5 August 8th – 18th
