El Paso Records 1st West Nile Death of 2011

EL PASO - Public Health officials say an 89-year-old woman has the become the first person to die from West Nile virus in El Paso this year.
The woman lived in the 79938 zip code. According to health officials, the woman is the 7th person to be diagnosed with West Nile so far this year.
Health officials remind everyone to take precautions and protect themselves from West Nile
- · Dusk and dawn are when mosquitoes are most active. Avoid outdoor activities during these times.
- · Dress - If you are outside, cover up by wearing pants, long-sleeved shirts, shoes and socks.
- · Drain standing water on the ground, water in tires, plastic containers, cans, kiddy pools, pet water bowls or any other type of container that can hold water. Mosquitoes can lay their egg in very little water.
- · DEET - Use a mosquito repellent that contains DEET (chemical name N,N-diethyl-metatolumide). Be sure to follow the instructions for use on the container.
