EL PASO - Water won't tame these flames... it'll just add fuel to the fire.
"The photographer...we're not professional models. We don't do this professionally so he gives us a lot of direction and helps us with any poses that we do. It's all in good fun."
A group of El Paso firefighters will heat up the pages of a 2011 calendar by showing off their guns and hoses.
"We were prepared for a lot of grief the first year around, but surprisingly enough...most of our sales came from guys on the department...selling them to their sisters and stocking stuffers for friends of the family and things like that. so yeah you catch your fair share of grief, but everybody's awesome about it."
E-P-F-D looks H-O-T in this attempt to raise money for the city's combat challenge team. Team Member Daniel Roy says he hopes El Pasoans flock to the spread like moths to a flame... like they did in 2009... when the department first issued a calendar.
"We really try to stay self-funded. So the calendar gives us a means to show the department in a positive light, show what we do as a team and also raise money to help us compete."
The Combat Challenge team... a group of five firefighters... who participate in a task-based competition once dubbed the toughest two minutes in sports by ESPN.
"It kind of takes what we do on the job and puts it in a light that people can see and gives as an outlet for competition."
These calendar boys don't blow smoke... they promise to keep you up-to-date everyday in the new year.
"Definitely ring in 2011 with this calendar. It'll be a great stocking stuff and it's for a great cause."
You can purchase a calendar for $10 at either Crossfit El Paso East, EFS Training Solutions or Kinley House Coffee and Tea by the end of September.
