EL PASO - Less than two days after a fire claimed the life of Jerry Villa Jr. and his common-law wife's 6 -year old daughter, his neighbors still haven't returned home.
"The smell of smoke is still real bad," neighbor Lorena Garcia said. "Everything is just saturated with smoke. Smoke dust everywhere. Just for my own peace of mind, I'm not ready to go back."
For now, the neighbors of the eastside quadraplex that caught fire early Thursday morning are staying with family or hotels thanks to the Red Cross.
They are also collecting donations for the family of the 6 year-old killed in the fire.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire but they do believe it was accidental.
Yesterday we spoke with the victim's family who mention that Villa had complained to them about previous electrical problems in the home.
But the owner of the quadraplex says he never received any complaints from his tenants about electrical problems.
