EL PASO - New and disturbing questions surround former El Paso County Ethics Commission Chairman David Chavez.  As you may know...he's accused of sexually assaulting a relative.

Crime scene tape surrounds the home of former Ethics Chairman David Chavez.  Newspapers are piled up at the end of his driveway.  Neighbors are filled with questions and told Newschannel 9 that word is spreading that Chavez is dead.  Police are not confirming that but did say any body at the home would not be identified until after an autopsy is complete.

Chavez was recently arrested on suspicion of sexual assault.  According to the arrest affidavit, the 15-year-old victim says Chavez began sexually abusing her at age 10.  She claims the abuse continued until as recent as last may... a period of time when Chavez would reportedly have sexual relations with her about twice a week.

A neighbor vouched for Chavez at the time of his arrest.

"I've known David for 40-plus years.  I mean we've never been real close, but I've never known David to do anything violent."

Since his arrest, a new allegation surfaced against Chavez.  Police would only say it's criminal in nature.  His attorney...Theresa Caballero...said her client is innocent.  As police surround Chavez' west side home, neighbors are wondering if they'll ever see Chavez again.

Well, I realize its counting chickens before the eggs hatch, but were it true, I think that County would be spared the cost of a trial. Put that money toward the Jail Officers who got demoted.
