EL PASO - In his continued efforts to build awareness within the community, County Commissioner Sergio Lewis has drafted a Resolution to be read on Monday in opposition any future Department of Defense military budget cuts.

Due to the additional $600 billion in potential budget reductions to the Department of Defense, Commissioner Lewis wrote a guest column that was published in the El Paso Times on January 22, 2012. The guest column stated his position opposing these cuts and reductions due to the possibilities of reducing the benefits to our troops, the downsizing of the Military and the possibility of our Nation being placed in a state of vulnerability.

“Our soldiers fighting for us should be our priority and the ability to defend our Country from any possible threats should be our focus,” said Commissioner Lewis.

No country in the world @ present has the ability to defeat us in an all out direct war-much less with the help of our allies. Now having said this, there are still billions of dollars being spent in our own homefront that deal with eliminating any potential immediate threats such as inhouse terrorists. What this country should realize is that dangers will alway be present, but if we give in to "fear" then we ourselves will never be at peace.
