EL PASO- The City of El Paso received federal funds to create jobs and save money.
Thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), El Paso has added 35 jobs and generated $2.8 million in local spending.
The jobs were created when the city made energy efficient improvements in 44 of it's municiple buildings. More efficient light sources and smarter heating/cooling systems added the jobs, while saving costs on energy consumption.
Stuart Ed, The city's Director of General Services Department, says citizens will benefit greatly from these green projects.
"Once these loans are paid back with the savings, that becomes money that will be available for more programs for the citizens of El Paso."
In the next 17 years, El Paso is estimated to save more than $3 million.
