Republicans See Another GOP Frontrunner

WASHINGTON- GOP Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich is on a roll this morning, after capturing a key newspaper endorsement.

New Hampshire's Union Leader gave the former speaker its support, and snubbed Mitt Romney as a play-it-safe candidate. Romney is raising lots of cash and has plenty of support, but is struggling to get conservatives excited. Newt Gingrich isn't the greatest candidate, but he's better than Mitt Romney.

That's the bottom line of an endorsement by New Hampshire’s Union Leader newspaper. "If you were to balance it between Romney and Gingrich, Romney is a very play-it-safe candidate," said Andrew Cline of the New Hampshire Union Leader.

That highlights Romney’s inability to connect with conservatives. "Do you want ... a middle of the road candidate like Mitt Romney," says Robert Traynham of Comcast Network’s "Roll Call TV With Robert Traynham."

Gingrich is just the latest to top the GOP field, as Michele Bachmann is shrugging off the endorsement. "The main endorsement I'm looking forward to is the one here in Iowa on January 3rd in the Caucuses," proclaimed Michele Bachmann, (R) Presidential Candidate.

Herman Cain is struggling to regain momentum. "Obviously false accusations and confusion about some of my positions has contributed to it," explained Herman Cain, (R) Presidential Candidate.

Jon Huntsman is hoping for his turn, "I'm getting whiplash watching these people go up and down."

Thirty-six days until the Iowa Caucuses and Republican voters are still shopping around.
